About fisherieswatch.org

The primary purpose of this site is to function as a repository of documents I've collected that deal with various aspects of world fisheries. This is the 'library' of the site. The library can be accessed via the 'search' and 'browse' links that appear at the top of every page. Each article in the library has a title, publication date, source, precis, region, and keywords. To guarentee access, and for ease of printing, a copy of each article in PDF format is stored on the fisherieswatch website. Note that some documents were not originally made available in PDF - in those cases, I have created PDFs by merging the source HTML files. As well, in those cases where a document was originally available as multiple PDFs, I have combined the PDFs into one document.

The 'search' feature allows articles to be located by title, date, source, region and precis. For example, if you're looking for articles from the NOAA Fisheries department, entering "NOAA" into the search field will locate them. Or, if you're looking for articles on bycatch, entering 'bycatch' into the search field will locate every article that has the word 'bycatch' in the title or precis. Note that in order for items to be found by the search function they must have all the attributes specified in the search form, ie if you enter 'cod' as a search term, and select 'Europe' from the region popup, you will only be shown documents that match both criteria.

The 'browse' feature allows articles to be located by Source, Region, and Keywords.

The "log" section of the site is updated whenever items are added to the library, so it's a useful way to see what's been happening with the site recently. I also update the log when new features are added to the site.

About me

I built this site to scratch an itch. Specifically, I wanted to understand more about fisheries-related issues, and I found that I needed a place to store and organize the information I was collecting. Hence, this site.

Feedback is appreciated, as is any information that might be relevant to the site. In particular, I'm always on the lookout for in-depth articles, papers, etc on virtually any aspect of the fishery. Ideally, what I'm looking for is information that straddles the space between the "Fisheries are collapsing!" newspaper-headlines, and the "Modeling time-varying growth using a generalized von Bertalanffy model..." articles in the scientific fisheries journals.
